A PLACE WITH A RICH HISTORY

Nordpol Kro is from 1864  and has been run by the Bredesen family since the 60's. The current owner has run the place since 1985. Nordpol Kro was the last tap and accommodation for Fridtjof Nansen before the FRAM 2 expedition continued towards the North Pole in 1889.

Nordpol Kro is today a vibrant place with a wide offer to our guests. We have a unique atmosphere with an English style. We are sort like a small museum, and most of the decor is taken from Vardø's history. When you enter the door at Nordpol Kro, you immediately feel the good atmosphere and warmth, while you get a deep respect for the place and its history that lies in the walls.

BLUES I VINTERMØRKET

Blues i vintermørket is a small bluesfestival in the far northeast of Norway.

As a sign that we are entering the darkest time of the year, we turn Vardø on its head for a long weekend in mid-November every year. From Wednesday night well into the wee hours of Saturday, the Blues make their mark on our city in the Winter Darkness. Blues i vintermørket was started in the autumn of 1997 following an initiative from the nightclubs in Vardø. It was a desire to somehow mark the beginning of the dark time and the fact that we entered that phase of the year when we have three months of darkness around the clock.

November was chosen because the whole island is colored in a blue light in the transition between light and dark, which is typical of the Arctic climate zone.
